We have many credit cards that offer cash back, travel tickets, and gift vouchers as rewards. How about movie tickets as rewards for all spending? PVR Kotak credit cards might interest you if you are a fan of going to theatres. PVR Kotak credit cards come in two variants – Gold and Platinum. Here is a review of the higher variant PVR Kotak Platinum credit card with its rewards & benefits.
Fees and Charges
|Annual Fee||Rs 999|
|Annual Fee Waiver||None|
It is surprising to see no annual fee waiver option for a basic entry-level credit card. Kotak Bank should have added some options for this card.
- 2 free PVR movie tickets on Rs 10000 spends in a monthly billing cycle
Unlike the lower variant PVR Kotak Gold card, here we get 2 free movie tickets on Rs 10000 spending. This comes at the cost of paying a 2X annual fee at Rs 999 plus taxes. If movie tickets interest you, the PVR Kotak Platinum is a better card. We get 24 movie tickets in a year on spends of Rs 1.2 Lakhs compared to Rs 1.8 Lakhs spend on the PVR Gold variant.
If we value the two PVR tickets at Rs 400 (as we could use BOGO offers on other cards), then we get a return of 4%. This is decent enough.
Reward Rate on the PVR Kotak Platinum Credit Card
- Total Value of Movie Tickets: 12 X Rs 400 = Rs 4800
- Total Spend: Rs 1.2 Lakhs
- Return with Annual Fee: Rs 4800 – Rs 1178 = Rs 3622
- Reward Rate: 3%
Redemption of free PVR movie tickets
The free PVR tickets are vouchers that we can redeem during booking on the PVR website. There is an upper cap of Rs 400 for the ticket price and there are some exclusions on booking classes.
The free tickets on the PVR Kotak Gold card are not valid for Director’s cut, PVR Imax, Gold Class, and Europa cinemas.
- 15% cashback on Food and Beverages at PVR
- 5% cashback on movie ticket purchases at PVR box offices
The PVR Kotak Platinum credit card might appeal to a very select set of users. Most of us prefer direct cashback over other benefits. We have many cashback credit cards like Amazon Pay ICICI, Ace, Flipkart Axis, etc. that can give a reward rate between 1% to 5% for similar spending.
For a basic card like this, Kotak should have offered it LTF. We would have to pay the annual fee even if we spend Rs 10000 every month on this card.
