Axis Bank Freecharge Plus Credit Card Review

Rate this post

Axis Bank acquired the Freecharge platform back in July 2017. Over time, Freecharge has lost out to Paytm/Amazon Pay in the wallet and bill payment space. But like Paytm has launched a co-branded credit card with HDFC and SBI, Axis Bank has done the same with Freecharge. In this post, we review the Axis Bank Freecharge Plus credit card with its rewards and benefits.

Fees and Charges

  • Joining/Annual Fee: Rs 350 plus taxes
  • Welcome Benefit: Rs 700 worth of gift vouchers
  • Annual Fee Waiver: Spend Rs 50000 in a membership year

We get two gift vouchers worth Rs 350. There are many options to choose from. Some of the good ones are Uber, Flipkart, Myntra, and Big Basket.

The annual fee waiver at Rs 50000 is a good thing as this is an entry-level credit card.

  • Freecharge Spends (except Rent Pay): 5% cashback
  • Local Commute (Uber. Ola etc.): 2% cashback
  • Other Spends: 1% cashback

We get unlimited cashback in all categories. This is like a ‘junior’ version of the popular Axis Ace card. The Ace is a little better off as it gets 2% on all spending.

Just like other cashback credit cards from Axis Bank, we do not get rewards for:

×   Wallet Load

×   Fuel Spends

×   Gold Items and Jewelry transactions

×   Gift card purchases

My View

The Axis Bank Freecharge Plus credit card is a run-of-the-mill cashback credit card. The 5% cashback on Freecharge spending is good but there is little else to appreciate on this card.

The Axis Bank Ace has rendered this card useless with its superior cashback rewards.
